Hill Road Corridor

This was the first notable failure of the current administration. In 2019 a 4.5 million dollar reconstruct of Hill Road was scheduled for 2021. I attended a February meeting between county officials and the current supervisor and superintendent where we learned this project would be eligible for a federal grant for non-motorized access if Township submitted preliminary engineering by May 1. When it became obvious they had dropped this ball, I asked at the Metro Planning Commission if we could at least count on sidewalk completion and was assured by the road commission manager that would be possible “if Township requested.” Township supervisor’s job is to attend design meetings for projects like this one and insist on something like sidewalk completion. The project went forward with no sidewalks, never mind the bike lanes we could have had. In the years since, this corridor has seen two fatalities, one of which was pedestrian. How many times have you seen brave souls attempting to navigate this five-lane highway on foot or bicycle? This corridor is an excellent candidate for an implementation grant under the 5 Billion dollar Safe Streets 4 All program, but township refuses to apply for this funding.
